Today, many of the walkers are publicists, seeking attention for their current clients as well as courting new ones. “But the rule is, never give them enough money so they can leave.” One notorious case of a mistaken walker with benefits occurred in 2001 when hotel mogul Leona Helmsley fired her walker, Patrick Ward, also an employee, when she discovered he was gay Ward won a $10 million suit for wrongful termination. “Many of these women are wildly attractive and rich, but don’t have someone at the time, so when a handsome young man comes along, he might be given watches and trips to Aspen or St. “Some models charge $2,000 a night to escort women and it helps them to be photographed,” says Hay. “There are walkers with benefits,” says Jedell. Now a dying breed, walkers have gone by the wayside as social norms have changed, with gay male couples and solo women hitting the town. Appreciate all feedback. Be glad to answer any other questions. If you have our matte finish, I’d use one of the wax products mentioned above a little more frequently. It is virtually impossible to stain the gloss finish. Colors are suspended in the product and in the silicone–so colors won’t be affected. Any non abrasive cleaner will work on our products and on the 100% silicone we sent. A higher percentage could tarnish the metal shower fixtures. The remaining 99.78% actually did nothing. I believe the active ingredients actually produced hydrochloric acid! Fortunately the active ingredients were only 0.22%. Read the label on a new cleaner recently. A few are even dangerous to use in my opinion. Dilute white vinegar 50-50 with water and you have as good a bath cleaner as any on the market. Most bath cleaners are 2.5% to 6% citric acid (essentially expensive diluted vinegar). Cleaning products are a very big industry. But, don’t spray it on too thick.ġ4) Both a clean water rinse and a wipe down–neither of which is practical–are the only way to completely eliminate all problems. Once even one water molecule penetrates a surface the capillary attraction takes over and nothing can stop it.ġ1) A brief clean water rinse will take care of most soap, mildew and water penetration problems.ġ2) Only removing the water before it evaporates can totally eliminate limestone buildup.ġ3) Pledge®, Gel-Gloss™ and other products with a good wax base cause water to flow more quickly and thoroughly to the drain and make cleaning easier. Standing water with soap as a solvent will penetrate almost anything. (People who label and sell latex caulk as a product for moist areas do a real disservice.) Never use latex caulk for anything is my recommendation.ġ0) Our product is as water penetration resistant as we can make it. Mildew can only grow on products which absorb moisture and provide “food”.ĩ) Latex caulk and soap residue both hold moisture and provide “food” for mildew. This is why we do a final, water only, rinse on clothing.Ĩ) Mildew can’t grow on our product or our 100% silicones. Soap (basically a salt of fat acids) is “food” for mildew. 6) Eliminating moisture faster may slow the growth of mildew–but not much.ħ) Mildew is a parasite fungi needing a little moisture, but mainly something to “eat”. Unfortunately, limestone and soap remain whether water evaporates fast or slow. Limestone is soluble in water–that’s how it got there. They really shine.ģ) Water without soap will also fairly quickly dissolve lime stone. White vinegar also works well on shower doors. Inkscape is alright too (Affinity wins if you want a UI similar to Illustrator, they are VERY similar to each other). Personally I found Affinity Designer (not free but fairly cheap) a really good alternative to Photoshop. And since there is no real open-source competition for Inkscape, that leaves commercial software as the alternative, be it Illustrator, Affinity Design, or something else.ĭepends on what you are trying to do with it. In case of Inkscape, I don’t know if there is a better alternative, but if one wants to pursue vector graphics seriously, it’s worth searching for a better alternative, I believe. But in many cases, spending some money will give you a more comfortable experience, and in the particular case of Gimp and Inkscape I can say that these programs are not that good. And yes, there are great open-source tools (calibre comes to mind). I’ve seen my share of vocal communities centered around certain open-source products and most of the time, that product does certain things better than the commercial industry standard, but fails or misses out on a bunch of features that the commercial product has.Īnd don’t get me wrong, there is always a place for open-source products, namely, anytime you don’t want to spend money, which often applies to me. But there is definitely a reason why their software continues to be popular. I’m not specifically referring to Adobe products. It’s just that on average, you can expect less trouble and more polish with commercial software, in my opinion. It's believable if you've only used an older version or only use it rarely. You can be stricken from consideration for lying on your application, so I wouldn't admit you've never touched it if you're going that route. I'd also suggest watching a few photoshop tutorials if you are going to put it on your resume, so you can at least be believable ("I've used it a bit but I mainly use X") and know what the equivalent tools are called in it. There's more of a disparity between using Maya vs Blender I've found than photoshop vs a free program. But the best way to get hired (for art) is a good portfolio or connections. Obviously cater to what's in the listing and research the company. I've applied to stuff where I don't have all the programs on my resume and still got a follow up or an interview. And a lot of them are more willing to let you learn on the job or teach you a program. (And if you're applying to a small branch of a big studio, that might also be the case though you might not know it until you're interviewing with them). In my experience they tend to be portfolio first and foremost and then they read your resume, for artists at least. I was talking indie studios with like <10 people. That being said, I absolutely agree with you that the skills transfer, and so the open source options are a great way to break in before you're doing a lot. Krita covers a lot of where GIMP fails, but definitely has more slowness and rough patches than Photoshop. The cost is negligible compared to the benefit if you use it professionally. Not that Inkscape, GIMP, and video editors like Olive aren't usable, but I simply don't see why a professional would ever prefer them over what Adobe offers. However, when it comes to video editing, photo editing, and vector graphics, I unfortunately have to admit that for any professional level of work Adobe is still king. In coding VSCode is quite good, especially for web dev, and really only the JetBrains IntelliJ-based products have any significant edge over it, and it's a very slight, arguable edge. It depends a lot on the area, Blender for example is excellent and in a decent number of areas superior to its paid counterparts, and it's particularly impressive for how much of an all-in-one tool it is. Especially when the rest of the team works from Windows. But requires some tricky actions to make it work for something non-standard. So, overall - it should work on small and/or simple projects. Or when a week ago I tried to work with WWISE integration in another project, it even failed to compile the project because it had some Windows-specific things inside (and it doesn't seem like it can have multiple Editor integrations at all, at least I gave up trying at some point). Also it throws some additional (fake?) error messages, I even gave up creating corresponding issues at some point. in an Augmented Reality game we're developing it for some reason blocks keyboard input, no idea why, but I can't run the simulation properly because it doesn't react to WASD, only to touchpad/mouse. I run Unity quite fine on my cheap laptop with Linux - can do some basic programming or UI design. Most captured people performing mundane tasks or simply staring at the screen in a “Screen Test”.
